Washington State Attorney
My legal career, spanning three decades and both coasts of the U.S., has allowed me to represent critical interests of the people of Washington State. Energy and water matters, environmental issues, and land use are at the core of my law practice.
After graduating from the University of Washington, School of Law, in Seattle, I began practicing law in 1972. I was fortunate to spend the first 10 years of my career serving as legal counsel for U.S. Senator Henry M. Jackson. Senator Jackson chaired the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources from 1963 until 1980. In addition to gaining an in-depth understanding of the issues involving energy and natural resources, I had an opportunity to see how public policy and legislation is developed and implemented. My experience drafting legislation has been a significant asset to clients of my Washington law practice.
Although Senator Jackson is no longer with us, I am honored to serve as general counsel of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation. The foundation is a grantmaking organization that is guided by the principles, values, and interest areas of the late senator Henry M. Jackson.
I returned from Washington D.C. to Washington State in 1983 and established my legal practice in Seattle. I have an AV rating* with Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating a lawyer can achieve for legal skill and ethical practice.
I am admitted to practice in Washington State courts, the bankruptcy courts in the Western and Eastern Districts of Washington, the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit.
I am a member of the Washington State Bar Association and District of Columbia Bar Association. I am also a member of the Electric Cooperative Bar Association and Washington State Bar Association Environmental and Land Use Law Section.
